Witmore Enterprises Inc.
How it began...
- In the 1950’s Mrs Sonja Witt commenced a small pre-school in the annexe of
All Saints’ Parish Hall.
- Mr and Mrs Ray Moore’s daughter, who had a disability joined the pre-school
- Unfortunately, the authorities found this unacceptable and required her to be removed from the program.
- This caused a great deal of anguish to the Moore and Witt families and they
collaborated to find a solution.
- As Ray Moore and Klaus Witt were members of the Lions Club of Singleton they
decided to approach them for assistance.
- Towards the end of 1958, the Lions Club of Singleton began the process to
construct a special school
- On 2nd July 1960 Witmore Special School was officially opened at 26 Church Street, Singleton.
- As the children at the school became older, the Lions Club members could see
the need for a sheltered workshop
- The formation of the Singleton Sheltered Workshop Association commenced
in 1973.
- Work commenced at the former joinery workshop of Mr Clarence Fellowes at
23a Bishopgate Street, Singleton.
- The Witmore Special School ceased operating on the 15th December, 1983.
- On 13th September, 1995 Singleton Sheltered workshop became Incorporated
- Our name changed to Witmore Enterprises Incorporated on the 8th March,

1996 in recognition of the Witt and Moore families.
